ENGINEER AT WORK

Je?

Haiyaaa basi wacha nikusimulie kisa. Nikueleze kwa kina jinsi mambo yalivyo.

Kulitanda wingu la tetesi. Kukaanza uvumi. Uvumi ukageuka nong'ono. Wasiwasi ukajaa ofisini. Majadiliano hapa na pale .Maswali zikatanda hewani “Kwani engineer at work ni nani?”

So in that little iron sheet office corrugated with steel and with three long elongated ‘conference tables’ in the middle of the room the murmurs didn’t cease. The interns, staff, casual labourers, security at the gate and mathee in the kitchen all wanted to know who exactly the engineer at work was.

As sure as the sun will rise again tomorrow and July will remain cold, somehow, someone or everyone in that category had fallen victim of this one man. And this one man, him like gold, as self righteous as he comes and a stoic sense that would fool you dearest gentle reader, sat in that office believing the engineer at work was someone else. Probably someone disgusting, someone less educated, someone rough, someone in the low rankings, anyone but him.

Some pulled me close. Asked if they were the said engineer. Somewhere between the period I had promised to write about it and now, they speculated if it were they. Their self conscious mind probably wondered if they had at any point crossed this writer.

My office friends asked about it. Is it engineer naniii…. They knew who it was. They definitely knew but they had to be sure. It wasn’t information to be traded and for sure some things are said without being said. So they knew the man without me saying who it was. His obnoxious ways weren’t to be forgiven.

Pale alipoketi najua atadhani si yeye but who is he to judge self when the greatest cross is on everyone else?

He walked like he owned the place. Of course he did (only in his head) and all of us on that piece of land that the government had secured were puppets in his show. He didn’t play with the puppets often but for sure he knew how to ruffle the feathers.

Wacha nisiongeleleee udanganyifu, si hata wewe wajua a lie is cunning to every human being and no one is an outlier including your own pastor? Bett knows things.

What drives me to write about all this you may ask. Yule jamaa kanibagua. Sijui nisemeje lakini as you all know this writer is super petty and may have read too much into the situation. Yule mwandisi kanifinyanga jinsi mluhya hufinya ugali (just realized how this may sound to a dirty mind but I’m keeping this line). Kanifinyilia na kunikandamiza lakini as always he’ll think he didn’t do any of the things above.

He carried himself respectfully. Nodded head while at it, worked smart and supervised the building keenly. Good work ethic I may say but what is good about you when everything you’ve ever done poisoned a reputation you worked so hard for.

Lastly, I bet he takes a can or two to cool off work hence the ulevi part. But who am I to judge a high ranking engineer at work? All this work might be some personal vendetta that needs sorting but oh well!!

I can be your compass, direction and solace. Wink wink.

From a good engineer at work.

To my bosses its fiction,

to anyone who may put one and to together, you are right,

to the engineer who thinks its them... of course its you!
