AS IT IS

The stories have faded

Through the mystical lenses of things foreseen.

The body has sat there,

On display

Waiting for someone to caress it

An ode to a land of Disney

Where birds of prey don't exist

We are immigrants through time.

We watch as the things we once saw attractive fade

We see the edge of things

Where it's not grey anymore

Black and white, like it should be

We whisper

Through the midnight chills

To evade the world

To dim the light

That once-promised liberty

We have been caged

Maybe

By our own morals

To believe is to be imprisoned

To not believe is to be lost

I am imprisoned, lost, maybe,

So are you.

Yet memory remains a saint

It doesn't easily leave you.

I recall the times

I've fidgeted on my chair on days that assignments were due

My table though made of wood has soaked tears when I fell apart

If the table would speak, then seasons would come alive

The snacks I've nibbled on have seen the pleasure of sitting next to my fave spots

Being a lover of the color yellow, my being has sipped in that energy even when some days felt dark

My laptop has sat there, playing boring Spotify music often

My books have pitied me

The gratitude jar has wondered why I stopped being grateful

The calendar has had me counting days

Till I appreciate the world as it is

memory promises liberty but it remains a saint

I wish some people and things would be completely erased

I know you wish so too.

As it is,

Everything is as it is.

Only time will prove

Time is a saint

Time is a memory

Time makes us immigrants

Strangers or sojourners

Sojourners in the land of promise

Or so you think.
